From its early days in the mid19th Century, some impressive buildings and sites have been constructed for a range of purposes. You can now walk and/or drive a distinct Heritage Trail covering 13 of the more noticeable historical locations and sights around the town of Winchelsea - starting on the Geelong side, you should visit ;

  2. the Barwon Park Mansion . Maintained by teh National Trust, it is a showpiece of 19th century fine living built by the founders of the town
  3. a bluestone shop in Austin Street, which used to be a General Store around 150 years ago
  4. the Winchelsea Grandstand, a memorial to local soldiers killed in World War I
  5. the Globe Theatre , built by the father of famous opera singer Marjorie Lawrence in 1926
  6. Winchelsea's First Church, built as both school and church - it still includes a stone used by ladies to mount their horses side-saddle
  7. the old Library, now the Information Centre, built in 1894
  8. the Barwon Hotel, first built in 1842 and with a rich history of services including post office, library, and carriage stop-over
